French Polishing
- is the process of coating wood with a solution of shellac dissolved in alcohol, using a rag and cotton wool instead of brush. When applied correctly it produces the finest looking finish for the furniture.
Shellac first was introduced in Europe circa in the 16th century, but the term "French Polish" was not used until 1820 when the process was developed by the French cabinet makers.
